If you’ve been scrolling through social media and found yourself smiling at photos of people doing yoga with goats on their backs, you’re not alone. Goat yoga has exploded in popularity over the past few years—and for good reason! It’s fun, uplifting, and a little unexpected. But if you’re considering giving it a try, you might be wondering: Is goat yoga actually safe?
At Nature’s Trail Yoga, we hear this question a lot, especially from first-time visitors. And we totally understand—combining animals with exercise can sound like a wild (pun intended!) idea. The good news is, goat yoga be very safe when it’s done thoughtfully, with the animals’ well-being and human safety both in mind. Here's how we make sure your experience is not just heartwarming and fun—but also safe from start to finish.
Our Goats Are Seasoned Pros
At Nature’s Trail Yoga, our goats have been participating in goat yoga since they were just two months old. That means they’re not only used to being around people, they love it. Each one of our goats is known for their gentle and friendly nature. They’re social, affectionate, and genuinely enjoy interacting with guests. You’ll often find them laying on yoga mats, looking for pets, or simply lounging nearby soaking up the good vibes.

All Goats Are Healthy and Vaccinated
We care deeply about the health of our animals and our guests. Every single one of our goats is up to date on their vaccinations, ensuring they’re healthy, happy, and safe to be around. We also conduct regular wellness checks to make sure our herd is in tip-top shape, physically and emotionally. When you visit Nature’s Trail Yoga, you can feel confident that you’re surrounded by well-cared-for animals in a clean, safe and healthy environment.
Only the Smallest Goats Jump on Backs
Yes, some of our goats will gently hop onto your back during poses like tabletop or child’s pose—and believe it or not, many of our visitors love it. They say it feels surprisingly soothing, like a mini massage! One of our most common pieces of feedback is: “Can the goat stay on my back a little longer?”
But we don’t just let any goat jump on guests. Keeping goat yoga safe, only our smallest, lightest goats are trained for this kind of interaction. Plus, we place a soft blanket on your back for extra padding, so you’re comfortable and supported the entire time. If you prefer not to have a goat on your back, just let us know—it’s totally optional!

Nibbling Is Normal—But Managed
Some of our goats do like to nibble, especially if they think you’ve got snacks! While it’s harmless and even a little funny, we give all our guests a quick safety rundown before class. One important tip: keep your hands in a closed fist if a goat starts to nibble.
Goats have two sharp molars in the back of their mouths used for grinding hay. While they won’t intentionally bite, you definitely don’t want your fingers anywhere near those molars. Our staff is always nearby to help guide interactions and make sure both humans and goats are having a good time and keeping goat yoga safe at Nature's Trail Yoga.
A Private, Peaceful Setting
Safety isn’t just about animals—it’s also about the environment. Nature’s Trail Yoga is located on a private, 5-acre scenic farm in a safe and peaceful area. It’s the kind of place where you can breathe deeply, unwind, and truly connect—with nature, with the animals, and with yourself. Whether you’re practicing yoga under the trees or simply sitting still while a goat curls up next to you, our property is designed to help you relax and recharge.
A Heartwarming Experience for All
At the end of the day, goat yoga is safe at Nature’s Trail Yoga and is more than just a yoga class—it’s an experience that touches your heart. It’s laughter when a goat gently sniffs your hair. It’s joy when you find yourself smiling mid-pose. It’s peace as you lay in savasana with goats quietly nearby. And yes, it’s a safe, thoughtful, and professionally run event from beginning to end.
